Golden Age Music Making

Tuesdays 3:30-4:00

 

Join Jordann for singing, movement, and musical games for weekly music groups for individuals in their homes or residents at your facility to enhance quality of life and socialize through music!  Using telehealth services, we aim to serve those feeling isolated during this uncertain time. Making music can promote: 

  • Sensory stimulation
  • Fine and gross motor skills 
  • Healthy pain management and coping skills
  • Memory recall with person-preferred music 
  • Positive mood changes
  • Social interaction 

 

What you need to know:

  • Sessions will last approximately 30 min and are limited to 8 participant maximum.
  • Sessions will be planned with emotional and physical wellness needs of seniors in mind 
  • Enjoy making music in the safety of your home!

Sentimental Journeys

Do you have a family member who sings/hums along with songs from their youth? Or someone who may benefit from individualized or group music and social engagement? 

 

Central Ohio Music Therapy is now offering support for your family member or facility’s residents with telehealth services. Music provides opportunities for reminiscence in a responsive and supportive environment with the certified professional. Our mission is to provide web-based services during this uncertain time and support and enrich quality of life through music. 

Music therapy interventions for those living with memory disorders can support neurological function for:

  • Improved orientation, alertness  and memory recall
  • Meaningful social interaction
  • Improved mood and brightened affect
  • Decrease stress, anxiety & agitation

 

What you need to know:

  • Sessions will last approximately 30 min and are limited to 8 participant maximum.
  • Sessions will be planned with emotional and physical wellness needs of seniors in mind 
  • Enjoy making music in the safety of your home! 

 

What you need to participate: 

  •  An internet connection, an email account, and a Zoom account
  • Computer, tablet or smartphone with video camera and audio input (built in microphone or otherwise) & output (built in speaker/headphone jack)
  • Headphones are ideal but not required *let us know if headphones are not possible due to physical, sensor and/or safety issues and we will work with you

Memories Choir

Music Therapy Choir

Led by Gwen D’Amico, MT-BC

Tuesdays 10-11am

The COMT Music and Memories Choir takes on a relaxed and enjoyment focused format for those living with Alzheimer’s/Dementia and caregivers. Rehearsals focus on reminiscing, recalling memories, and discussing memories throughout one’s life through music and singing with simple and fun exercises to support health and singing “sprinkled” throughout rehearsals. Many choirs have a set list of songs, but this choir will have both recurring and different songs each week to discuss and sing to. Music will include classic hits, folk songs, songs through the decades, and more! A special COMT Music and Memories Choir performance will be recorded on the last day to keep and share with friends and family! The ability to read music is not necessary! Any music needed will be provided via image/pdf (with copyright). Enjoy making music in the safety of your home!
